Night hours in your log book
Many states and territories require learners to log some of their supervised hours at night before the driving test. Check how many you need with your licensing authority.
Low beam and high beam
Under the Australian Road Rules, dip your high beam when a vehicle is coming towards you, or when you are following a vehicle, within 200 metres.
Plan your lesson time
Choose a start time after sunset. It gets dark much earlier in winter than in summer, so check the sunset time where you live.
Watch for fatigue
Night driving is more tiring. Lessons cover how to recognise the signs of fatigue and plan breaks on longer drives.
